The rules for what happens in States Meetings are set out in the Rules of Procedure. Although these are a bit obscure, it really is worth getting to know your way around them, because they give you the tools to help shape debates – and that will come to be really important as time goes on.
You’ll have some guidance during your induction, of course, but it can only take you so far – and you’re bound to feel a bit overwhelmed with information at the start. Your best source of informal guidance will be your colleagues who’ve been doing this a bit longer. They won’t know it all, and you’re definitely better off asking multiple people than just relying on one person, but they will have lots of valuable experience to share, and it’s worth finding out as much as you can!
