Be at the heart of your local community
Your parish needs YOU!
Each of the ten parishes in Guernsey is looked after by two elected Constables. They are supported by a small staff team and an elected council of residents called the Douzaine. Constables and Douzeniers are at the heart of our local communities.
Details of vacancies will be published formally on Friday 6 October but if you’d like to know more now, your parish would welcome hearing from you. Parish contact details.
Nomination forms are available from your parish office and need to be returned by Monday 23 October.
Read our guide to the annual parish elections.
Skills required
Douzeniers are meant to represent the views of the community so they can come from all walks of life. The more diversity the better so that there are a variety of voices around the table.
The main skill you need is a passion for your parish and a willingness to dedicate time and energy to listening to parishioners and working to improve your local community.
Different members of the Douzaine bring different perspectives. You may be an accountant so focus on the numbers. You may be a parent so understand the issues for local schools and playgrounds. You may like to write and be able to help with the parish magazine.
Douzaines generally hold their meetings on one Monday evening a month
