Thinking of standing for your parish? The November election is on the horizon

A guide for potential parish candidates
Step 1

Love your parish? Thinking about joining your Douzaine? Great!

First up, have a look at the opportunities available in your parish this year. The election notices were published in La Gazette Officielle in the Guernsey Press on 6 October 2023. Click the button below to see them.
Step 2
Download our detailed Guide to the Parish Elections Process. We'll take you step-by-step through what you need to do.
Step 3
If you haven’t already, have a look through our 'Douzenier or Constable' section. You'll find a detailed description of the roles, plus videos of current parish officials talking about their experiences.
Step 4
If you are interested in joining a School Committee, read Jo May's description of her experiences.
Step 5
Talk to the team at your local Constables Office or Douzaine Room. The parish clerk can tell you more about the positions are available in your area, give you the nomination forms (to be returned by 4pm on Monday 23 October 2023) and introduce you to a current parish official, if you wish. Some parishes have the forms available for download on their website.

Perhaps you already know someone who is a Douzenier or Constable and could contact them for a chat? Check parish websites for the contact details for each parish official.
Step 6
Let Women in Public Life know! We're keen to support women who are thinking of standing in the parish elections.

We'll keep you informed, introduce you to others on the same journey, be there when you need someone to talk to, build your confidence and save you time.
